The Compass of Global Governance: Redirecting Institutions by Rebuilding Trust and Restoring Accountability
On behalf of the 5th LIFEMUN Secretariat and Organizing Committee, I welcome you all to the 5th LIFE Model United Nations Conference!
In an era where public institutions are constantly scrutinized by an informed and connected global citizenry, trust has become one of the most valuable and most fragile foundations of governance. As such, this theme challenges delegates to explore how governments and international institutions can regain legitimacy by reinforcing transparency, accountability, and principles that ensure power is exercised in service of the public rather than above it.
With this, the 5th LIFEMUN is guided by the words in Proverbs 11:14 (ESV), βWhere there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.β The crisis facing global governance today is not merely one of policy, but of legitimacy. Across democracies and authoritarian states alike, citizens increasingly question whether public institutions remain accountable to the people they serve or have become insulated from them. Only institutions that continue to serve the people, heighten transparency, and pursue accountability will be a compass that guides global governance.
In Christ,
